Depending on their characteristics, either the sediments have been offloaded at the Kannik disposal site (site closed since 2017) or they are offloaded at one of the five transit facilities located along the Seine from Honfleur to Rouen or in the Yville-sur-Seine gravel pits to fill them in.
Of the 7 Mm3 of dredged sediment, 3.5 Mm3 will be recovered in the construction industry or as backfill for gravel pits (quarries).
All materials deposited in transit facilities comply with the criteria for the acceptance of inert waste that can be recovered in the construction industry. They are mainly composed of coarse sand, fine silt and fine sand.
Location of transit facilities
The transit facility is a facility that receives sediments from dredging operations, with a view to their recovery. As part of this project, the installation of a transit facility allows these materials to be managed on land during a transitional period until they are recovered.
The 5 transit facilities
The maritime access improvement project thus includes the development of 5 transit facilities between Honfleur and Rouen.
For this purpose, 5 deposit chambers, active or dormant, have been selected from the 17 traditional deposit sites identified by the Port of Rouen (18 deposit sites taking into account the Yville gravel pit).
These 5 onshore storage chambers have been regulated under the Water Act to allow the storage of sediments, and authorized by the ICPEs to recover these materials.

The Yville-sur-Seine and Anneville-Ambourville gravel pits:
A large part of the sediment is used to fill gravel pits (until 2018 in Yville-sur-Seine and since July 2018 in Anneville-Ambourville): dredged sediments are used to fill quarries in order to recreate natural wet areas.
